Got a story idea or information you think deserves scrutiny? This page explains how you can share it with our newsroom, what happens after you reach out, and how we protect your identity. Every tip is treated seriously and handled by named editors.
What kind of tips are you looking for?
We are interested in original, well-sourced information that serves the public interest across UK politics, business, technology and public affairs. Good tips often involve wrongdoing, policy failure, corporate malpractice, or untold stories that major outlets have missed. You do not need to be a journalist to send us something valuable.
Examples include documents that reveal a conflict of interest, internal reports showing safety breaches, or first-hand accounts of systemic issues. If you are unsure whether your tip fits, send it anyway — our team will assess it. We do not accept anonymous rumours or unsubstantiated personal attacks. All tips must meet the standards set out in our editorial policy.
How do I get in touch?
Use the dedicated tips address tips@presshive.uk — it reaches the newsdesk directly and is monitored by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead. You can also contact specific editors if you know which beat your tip covers: thomas.hayes@presshive.uk for politics and public affairs, amelia.blackwell@presshive.uk for business and economy, or sophie.marlowe@presshive.uk for culture and features. For general editorial enquiries, use editorial@presshive.uk.
If you prefer a written record, email is best. For time-sensitive material, you can call our UK editorial line on +44 20 4587 9485 and ask to speak to the newsdesk. Please do not send sensitive information over an unencrypted voice line without prior arrangement.
How does verification work before publication?
Every tip is reviewed by Oliver Reeves, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead (oliver.reeves@presshive.uk). He and his team cross-check all claims against primary sources, public records and, where possible, independent witnesses. Nothing is published until the evidence meets our fact-checking policy.
Oliver works closely with the relevant editor — for example, Rebecca Haines (Managing Editor) or Jonathan Ellery (Editor-in-Chief) — to decide whether to pursue a story. If a tip cannot be verified to our standards, we will not use it, and we will explain why to you if you have provided a return contact.
How this works in practice
Once you send a tip, our newsdesk logs it and assigns a reference number. Oliver Reeves performs an initial triage within 48 hours. If the tip looks promising, you will receive a reply from a named editor (usually the relevant beat editor or the managing editor) acknowledging receipt and outlining next steps. We may ask follow-up questions or request copies of supporting documents. Throughout the process, your identity remains confidential unless you explicitly agree otherwise.
If your material leads to a published article, we will contact you before publication to check any facts you provided and to discuss how — if at all — you wish to be credited. We do not pay for tips, but we do recognise the public service role of whistle-blowers and sources. For corrections or complaints about any story that resulted from a tip, see our corrections policy and complaints procedure.
Can I remain anonymous?
Yes. We take source protection extremely seriously. If you wish to remain anonymous, please say so clearly in your first message. We will not share your name, contact details or any identifying information with anyone outside the core editorial team without your explicit consent. We recommend using an encrypted email service or a secure drop if you are sending highly sensitive material. For guidance on secure communication, contact tips@presshive.uk and request our secure contact options.
If you choose to stay anonymous, be aware that this may limit our ability to verify certain claims. We will still assess your tip, but we may need additional corroboration before publishing. Our safeguarding minors policy also applies to any tip involving children.
