What does this disclosure mean for you?
This page explains how Press Hive earns money from advertising and affiliate links, and what that means for you as a reader. We want you to trust that our editorial content remains independent, accurate, and free from commercial influence. Our revenue comes from several sources, each clearly labelled so you can always tell the difference between editorial journalism and paid promotions.
We believe transparency is essential to maintaining your trust. Below we break down each type of commercial arrangement, how we label sponsored or affiliate content, and how you can make informed decisions when you interact with our site.
How does Press Hive earn money from advertising?
We display digital advertisements through third-party networks and direct sales. These adverts appear in standard positions such as banners, sidebars, and between articles. We do not allow advertisers to influence the selection, placement, timing, or content of our editorial stories.
Some advertisements are programmatic – served automatically based on aggregated audience data – while others are sold directly to brands. In both cases, each advert is clearly marked with a label such as “Advertisement” or “Ad”. Press Hive reserves the right to reject any advertisement that does not meet our ethical or editorial standards. You can learn more about our approach in our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Sponsored Content Policy.
What are affiliate links and when do we use them?
Affiliate links are special URLs that allow Press Hive to earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase on a retailer’s website. These links are used only within articles that are clearly relevant – for example, product reviews, round-ups, or reader guides. You will never find an affiliate link inserted into a news or political report without clear notice.
Every article containing affiliate links includes a prominent disclosure at the top, such as: “This article contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy through these links – at no extra cost to you.” Our editorial team – including Amelia Blackwell, Business & Economy Correspondent, and Sophie Marlowe, Culture & Features Editor – chooses products and services based solely on editorial merit. Our editorial policy ensures that no commercial relationship dictates what we recommend or how we describe it.
How this works in practice
When you read an article on Press Hive that contains an affiliate link, we earn a small commission if you choose to buy the product. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you visited the retailer directly. We do not receive any payment for simply including the link – only when a purchase actually occurs.
For example, if Amelia Blackwell writes a round-up of the best business productivity tools and includes a link to a software subscription, you will see a disclosure at the start of the article. The same applies to Sophie Marlowe’s culture and features pieces. All affiliate earnings are recorded in our accounts and used to support our journalism – paying our writers, editors, and fact-checkers like Oliver Reeves, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead. You can find more detail in our Ownership & Funding page.
Who funds Press Hive and how are we owned?
Press Hive is owned and operated by Sliema Media Limited, a Malta-based digital media company (Malta Business Registry: C 84217). Our funding comes from display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, and newsletter sponsorships. None of these revenue streams influence what we cover or how we cover it.
All sponsored content is clearly labelled with the word “Sponsored” or “Paid Promotion” at the top of the article, and it is separated from our editorial newsroom. Jonathan Ellery, our Editor-in-Chief and Responsible Publisher, has final say over all editorial decisions. Our dedicated fact-checking policy applies to every piece of content, whether editorial or sponsored. For full details about our ownership structure and funding model, see our Ownership & Funding page.
How can you identify advertising or sponsored content?
We label every piece of commercial content clearly and consistently. Advertisements carry visual markers such as “Ad” or “Sponsored”. Sponsored articles include a prominent disclaimer at the top and bottom. Affiliate-linked articles contain a text disclosure in the first paragraph. Our aim is to make it impossible for you to mistake a paid piece for independent journalism.
If you ever have any doubt, please contact our team via our contact page or email info@presshive.uk. We take your trust seriously and will always answer questions about how a particular article or link was funded.
In short
Press Hive earns revenue from advertising and affiliate links, but that never determines our editorial conclusions. We label everything clearly so you can always make an informed choice. If you have any questions, our team is ready to help – just get in touch.
